A2P/Sierra Club Great Park presentation

On June 11, 2024 Airport2Park board member Michael Brodsky gave a detailed and well received presentation to the West LA Sierra Club on the long history of the Great Park in Santa Monica and what it will mean for the future of our City when the airport site is restored to its former Great Park role. The city’s planning and outreach process for the entire 192 acres is underway right now, and the airport is expected to close permanently at the end of 2028 to once again become a park. This is the time where the public get to choose what will be in our reborn and re-envisaged Great Park, so we urge everyone to engage actively with the process.

We have posted the video of this presentation below to help you learn the full history and potential of our great park, but also to dispel some of the false information that is out there.

We encourage you to go to the City’s project site: www.smacproject.com and sign up to stay informed. We also recommend you watch the informative video presentations there, particularly the second one below which puts the scale of this park in context and shows how parks of this size are commonly financed.
